DCAT-AP 3.0.1 Dataset

Describe a dataset according to the EU DCAT-AP 3.0.1 standard.

DCAT-AP is the EU standard for dataset descriptions used by data.europa.eu and national open data portals. Fill in at minimum Title and Description. Then add publisher, distributions, and classification metadata. Use canonical HTTP URIs from EU authority lists for vocabulary fields such as theme, language, and access rights.

Based on

  • DCAT-AP 3.0.1: The EU application profile for data catalogues (SEMIC).

Extended help (level 3)

The description is the most important field for discoverability. Write for a mixed audience of specialists and non-experts. Describe what data the dataset contains, its scope, origin, and any important caveats. At least one language-tagged value is required. Aim for three sentences or more.

Extended help (level 3)

The publisher makes the data available — not necessarily the entity that created it (use Creator for that). Provide at minimum a name and a persistent identifier such as an ISIL code or Wikidata URI. Strongly recommended in DCAT-AP 3.0.

Extended help (level 3)

Creator and Publisher are separate roles. The publisher makes the data available; the creator produced it. For example, a museum may have created the collection data while a service bureau published it. Use the same Agent structure as for Publisher.
